Karl Wratschko (*1978)

I am a curator, filmmaker and artist. My artistic work includes film, photography, installation, radio art and public art. In my artistic practice I am particularly interested in socio-political issues, collective memory, media change and the interaction between humans and nature. Since 2016, I have been working as a film curator for the festival 'Il Cinema Ritrovato' in Bologna and as a curator for museum exhibitions. My programmatic and editorial work focuses on early film, silent film, experimental film, ephemeral film and experimental music.

I studied Theatre, Film and Media Studies (Mag.phil) and Business Administration (Mag. rer.soc.oec) in Vienna and Paris. From 2006 to 2014 I worked as a curator, archivist and DVD editor at the Filmarchiv Austria. I was co-responsible for several retrospectives of early Austrian film at the Viennale and a member of the Austrian team of the EU-funded research and development project 'European Film Gateway' and its successor project 'EFG1914'.
